Frequently Asked Questions

I’d like to help with a Habitat build. How can I get involved?
Please sign up for our e-newsletter to stay in touch as we prepare for our next build. We’d be pleased to give a presentation at your company, service club, or place of worship about the Habitat for Humanity movement.
I’m not sure about doing construction work — how else can I get involved?
We have non-construction volunteer positions available in fundraising, family support and administration.
How do you select Habitat partner families?
We build homes for low-income working families with children. Criteria to qualify for a Habitat home include aneed for affordable housing, ability to repay a Habitat mortgage, and willingness to partner with Habitat and contribute 500 hours of sweat equity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, cultural or ethnic background.
Does Habitat use volunteers for their work internationally?
Yes, through our Global Village Build program. HFH Kelowna also financially supports the affiliate in the African nation of Lesotho through our tithing program.
Does HFH Kelowna have a ReStore?
While other affiliates have ReStores that sell donated new and used building materials to the community, Kelowna does not at this time. The nearest ReStore is in Kamloops. However, we have an arrangement with a local private used building materials re-seller:
