Habitat for Humanity Kelowna was founded twenty years ago. The vision began in December 1991 when then City Councillor Marion Bremner called a handful of people together to consider if a Habitat affiliate could come to Kelowna. She was excited about "the idea of a community getting together with a solution, as opposed to looking to government."
Bremner later recalled her astonishment when 60 to 70 people came out to one of the first organizing meetings.

Habitat for Humanity Kelowna is very pleased to announce that it has been awarded a ten thousand dollar grant from the Royal Bank of Canada Foundation. The monies will be used toward the current Phase Two Elk Road on the Westside. Currently being built by Okanagan College residential construction students, the finished duplex will be sold to low-income families. Habitat for Humanity Kelowna is holding two public information nights for low-income working families with children who are interested in applying to become partner families with HFH Kelowna. Partner families help build their own homes with 500 hours of sweat equity and HFH Kelowna finances the mortgage. No down payment is required. HFH Kelowna is building a duplex on the Westside commencing in April 2011 for occupancy in the fall.
